Chinoiserie~T

Remember our close family friends with the gorgeous mountain home in Colorado? (here)
Well a few weeks after visiting them over Spring Break, a large box appeared on my front porch
.
{click on image to enlarge and say hello to Max}
Inside were three incredible shutters. These shutters had been sitting in their basement for years, collecting dust and spider webs and becoming more ratty and tattered {just like I ♥}.
It's just a shame that their gorgeous home is filled to the brim with art so they couldn't spare any space for these Chinese shutters. I was more than happy to edit my wall space to make room for these. Remember I moved the black Bombay table over to this wall to blend in with the dark walls a bit. Now it's my little chinoiserie section I guess...
Yes, I'm still mustering the courage to paint these chocolate brown walls white again. These shutters help with my transformation from dark to a bit lighter.Full view with my Morning T clock on the left.
The before shot {buried deep within the post}. We found this picture at an antique store on Bissonet a few years ago. It has a new home upstairs in our guest bedroom, which is tan and white. The ticket on one of the shutters:
There is Chinese writing down the back side of each shutter:

The third shutter has a bit more detail to it. For now I have it resting on the floor in our dining room and covering part of our very unattractive but necessary wine fridge. I'm curious where they found these shutters all those years ago...I'll be sure to ask when I visit Denver in a few weeks for my grandmother's 100th birthday, can you believe it?!

Good people

I have a lot of good people in my life. When the occasional bad apple crops up out of the batch, I don't let them linger long enough in my life to see if they were just bruised, or fully rotten to the core. As we all know, life is too short and we are all much too busy to surround ourselves with anything but positive, good people.

The blog-o-sphere has given me a new lease on my creative outlet and faith in people and connectivity. I have never in my life been surrounded by such positively creative and giving women.

That being said, it's not often I meet a perfect stranger face to face and am immediately pulled into their world, conversation, and their generosity. Just last week I had a unique and memorable encounter with a woman here in Houston.

Both Joni and Paloma have posted about Jill Brown, and this post was in Garden & Gun last fall...but as you know I'm always late to the party, and I just met Jill last week. She made such an impression on me, as did her fantastic store, BROWN, that I have to share her with all of you.

Jill actually reached out to me via email to let me know that she stumbled onto my little blog and was the source for some of the lighting in this post and this post. She also invited me to her store. Just like that, a good old fashioned invite. I introduced myself to her upon arrival (I went during my lunch hour) and she gave me a full tour of her gorgeous store and we chatted each other up about blogs, crafting, design, houses, child rearing inside the loop, world travel, etc...she was just delightful.

I didn't have my camera with me to snap any pictures of her gorgeous store, but a few small things you've seen in my house this week were items I brought home with me.
Metal basket with wood handle:

Smaller wire basket with handle:

Small cloche:
You can visit her website here, and just to wet your appetite, I've included some pics of her product/store off of 1st Dibs:

Go to Joni's post to see Jill's home, as written up here in Houston's Paper City magazine in 2006:

Brown is now my go to "destination~need a unique gift for someone special."

Pinkalicious

This may be the last bloom I'll ever see from my newly planted pink hydrangea. Let's enjoy her before she shrivels up and goes on to join her thousands of brothers and sisters in T's special spot up in garden and plant heaven.

I'm proud to say that I think I've finally figured out how to properly care for African violets. This has been in my kitchen window for 2 years and is very happy here.
I love my kitchen windowsill and am constantly changing what's inside. For someone who doesn't cook, I sure stand at the kitchen sink A LOT!
It's hard to get a good picture of the full window because our neighbors house is white, so the reflection of that always makes the image of my window too dark.
The four little herb prints hanging next to my window were a gift from my older sister when I moved into my very first apartment after college...almost 20 years ago. She found them in the Spiegel catalog. I've hung them in every kitchen of every home I've ever lived in~ they are quite special to me and hey, they're almost antiques now, ha!
I keep flowers hanging on the fence right outside the window so I have something pretty to look at, other than the fence.

Here's to pink flowers,
pretty views,
great neighbors,
safe travels for sis and hubby,
**300 followers** {yahoo, thanks Kim!!},
and lots of fun and laughter this weekend!
